The Defensive Driving Course introduces the topics of Attitude, Public Relations and all areas of the truck driving profession. The program includes Preventable accidents, Adverse driving conditions, Vehicle condition, Collision avoidance, Drivers' mental & physical fitness, Drivers' attitude and image, Customer and public relations
Driver Competency AssessmentŠ (DCA) - available for individuals or fleet operations.
The Driver Competency AssessmentŠ is a protocol designed to evaluate some basic driving skills of a candidate driver in vehicle. These are assessing a driver's needs; coming up with a strategy that can be implemented as a learning process in the lesson; and evaluating how well the learning took place and next steps. The DCA Standardized driver assessment measures Speed; Headway, Junctions Vehicle Handling; Dynamic Space Management and Dynamic Time Management; Effects of both external & internal distractions on driving; On-road assessment of a driver's ability to operate safely; Comparative View of the Current System Outlining Possible Amendments to Increase Road Safety; Enhancing Safety in Commercial Vehicles Through Systematic Measurement And Remediation With Lower Financial Commitment.
Participants will learn adult, child and infant skills for one person technique in choking, artificial respiration, and cardiac arrest. Participants will learn to identify signs and symptoms of stroke and heart attack. Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be certified by Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) - New clear language.
This course provides simplified directions for public employees to enable them understand and comply with the basic requirements of the T.D.G. Act to promote public safety in the transportation of dangerous goods. The TDG program includes TDG training requirements and responsibilities; Identifying labels and placards; Documentation preparation and meeting the TDG requirements; Classification, Safety Marks, Dangerous Occurrences, Special Requirements.
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System is a comprehensive national system for safe management of hazardous chemicals which is legislated by both the federal and provincial jurisdictions. The goal is to reduce incidence of employee illness and injury resulting from the use or handling of hazardous materials ranging from compressed gasses to flammable liquids, to infectious, corrosive or toxic compounds in the workplace by understanding responsibilities and the use of labels. WHMIS requires all suppliers (manufacturers, importers, packagers and processors) to label and prepare Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) for products they make, import, package, or process that meet the hazard criteria set out in the Controlled Product Regulations under the federal Hazardous Products Act.
Time Management and Trip Planning (details)
The purpose of this module is to review and/or inform drivers of the principles and procedures for effective time management and efficient trip planning. This will allow drivers an opportunity to improve or develop the necessary skills to plan for safe and efficient trips.
Hours of Service (HoS)
This module allows drivers to understand the basic concepts and requirements of the
Hours of Service Regulations according to the requirements of the National Safety Code (Canada) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations - Part 395 (United States), and to develop the ability to complete a Driver's Daily Log and logbook recap.
Air Brake "Z" Endorsement & Refresher (details) - For current holders of the "Z" endorsement.
The purpose of this module is to review air brake systems, adjustment of brakes, regulations, inspection and procedures. It is designed to provide a refresher course for all drivers; it is not intended to serve as a certification of a driver's skills.
Inspections, Troubleshooting and Preventive Maintenance (details)
The purpose of this module is to stress the importance of systematic vehicle inspections and to help develop/reinforce the skills necessary for good inspection. Drivers will review inspection procedures, how to diagnose and report malfunctions and the basics in performing preventive maintenance and simple emergency procedures.
